ABSTRACT
Metabolomic profiling of human malignant effusion remain a field poorly investigated. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) spectroscopy is rapid relatively low cost technique, and an optimal biospecimen suitable for metabonomic investigations. With this study we addressed metabolomic ascitic (mAE) from patients with high grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC), Hepatocellular (HCC), benign AEs (bAEs) reactive peritonitis.Metabolic 1H-NMR was performed on 72 (31 HGSOC, 16 HCC 25 bAE) prospectively collected in our cytology service. Histological confirmation requested all case. Multivariate analysis comprising PCA PLS-DA applied to discover metabolites differentiate effusions among the investigated groups.1H-NMR showed clearly different spectra AEs, as well HGSOC vs. effusion. When compared effusions, were enriched, all, alanine, lipids, N-acetyl groups phenylalanine depleted glutamine.Subject validation further larger studies, metabonomics could be effective reliable ancillary tool AE investigations diagnosis particularly acellular effusions.
