ABSTRACT
Introduction: Many plant-derived products despite wide usage are not scientifically evaluated for their safety and efficacy. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed to evaluate cytotoxic genotoxic activities of Polygonum aviculare L., Equisetum arvense Plantago lanceolata L. Artemisia absinthium ethanolic extracts human white blood cells. Methods: Cell viability was assayed by trypan blue exclusion method, while genotoxicity tested cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) assay upon cells stimulation with noncytotoxic concentrations plant extracts. Results: None showed high activity. At same time, only extract P. did any mutagenic activity, E. arvense, A. were clearly genotoxic. Conclusion: Caution is advice case long-term use herbal medicines population.
