Hidden landscapes of the Earliest Iron Age: Excavations at Kakliniškės 7 reveal an overlooked settlement phase in southern Lithuania

ABSTRACT
The article presents the data from Kakliniškės 7 settlement site, discovered and excavated in 2020 during construction of gas pipeline. rich representative collection pottery archaeobotanical material gathered site have provided valuable on hitherto unknown 4th century BC Lithuania. Pottery such as that found at has not previously been identified, is therefore referred to here Ware. These are pots with slightly curved walls, rounded shoulders vertical rims, featuring a striated surface topped an additional coarse layer. defined attributes this new type allowed identification same ware other burial sites southeastern Lithuania Trans-Nemunas region. All these share some common features; most likely they short-lived farmsteads belonging highly dispersed settlements. Such allow us hypothesise unidentified cultural group briefly spread southern BC.
