ABSTRACT
Introduction: Emotional pain and unmet interpersonal needs, i.e., thwarted belongingness perceived burdensomeness, are associated with increased risk for suicidality. This study examined their daily occurrence variability among adolescents at both lower higher suicidality, whether needs predicted emotional pain. Method: Fifty-five without major depressive disorder (MDD) completed 10 consecutive diaries assessing feelings of loneliness (as a proxy belongingness), Descriptive analyses the occurrence, severity, in these experiences. Within-person associations were using multilevel modeling. Results: Adolescents MDD reported greater day-to-day loneliness, pain, compared to MDD. Daily independently interactively across groups, such that was experienced on days when participants burdensomeness than usual them. Conclusions: Although present more within-person between similar fluctuations over time may represent potential mechanism via which increasing suicidal ideation is accrued longitudinally.
