ABSTRACT
This study was the first to investigate patterns of homework problems, as assessed by parent reports on Homework Problem Checklist (HPC), among children in general education and those referred an evaluation treatment program for attention-deficitihyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In Study I, parents students grades 3 through 6 (n = 675) completed HPC. An exploratory factor analysis revealed two salient factors: Inattention/Avoidance (Factor I), Poor Productivity/ Nonadherence with Rules II). 2, a clinic-referred sample (grades I 8; n 356), uncovered structure that highly similar sample. For purposes validation, HPC factors were correlated subscales from Behavior Assessment System ChildrenParent Teacher Ratings Scales. These correlations demonstrated Factor primarily related aspects functioning are readily observable (e.g., inattention, avoidance work, anxiety during homework); II both teachers (failure accurately record assignments, failure complete submit homework). The two-factor model is useful way conceptualize problems has important implications future practice research aimed at improving assessment intervention significant difficulties.
