ABSTRACT
Abstract. A patient with a thymic carcinoid tumour causing ectopic ACTH syndrome is presented. The case illustrates the rapid development of clinical and laboratory findings often associated secretion ACTH, including severe proximal myopathy, emotional lability, hypokalaemic alkalosis. Interpretation conventional tests pituitary-adrenal function was complicated by intermittent tumour. results selective venous sampling for ruled out pituitary hypersecretion were suggestive source; computerized tomography chest localized In vivo in vitro investigations confirmed excessive production tumour, surgical resection plus radiotherapy has resulted resolution syndrome. diagnostic problems created these tumours pre-operative post-operative medical management patients are discussed.
