ABSTRACT
The karyotypes of the purple snails Plicopurpura pansa (Gould, 1853) and P. columellaris (Lamarck, 1816) were established from 17 13 adults, respectively; eight capsules with embryos pansa. In counted 59 mitotic fields in adults 127 embryos; 118 P columellaris. Chromosome numbers 30 to 42 observed both species. Such a variation was notorious each sample there no evidence any relationship tissue (gill, muscle stomach). Both species has typical modal number 2n=36 chromosomes. Five good quality chromosome spreads selected assemble karyotype. Classic cytogenetics statistics like relative lengths, arm ratio, centromeric index difference between long short arms are presented. There three pairs ofmetacentric fifteen oftelocentric chromosomes This classification not strong enough, so complement by divided four groups ("a", "b", "c" "d") on basis lengths (p+q). A comparison p+q pair estimated within two ways analysis variance Tukey tests (P < 0.05). Significant differences identified among species; given first (group "a" biarmed) last "d" uniarmed). Deviations probably rearrangements, related polymorphism presence atypical microchromosome "B". fundamental characterized arms. No sex identified.
