ABSTRACT
Photodynamic therapy is a treatment that uses combination of light-absorbing photosensitizers and dissolved oxygen to kill cancer. One specific limitation photodynamic the visible light used for photosensitizer excitation has short tissue penetration depth several millimeters. This limits application surface cancers in absence technique illuminate deeper tissue. Efforts extend which can be applied have been attempted with use up-conversion persistent-luminescent nanoparticles absorb near infrared emit excitation, yet an initial external source still required. More recently, systems employing chemiluminescence as energy designed bypass developed investigated potential agents could overcome problem achieving deep We wish provide overview recently reported employ both radiative non-radiative chemiluminescent transfer hope "dark" therapy. article reviews these important new developments design therapeutic utilize chemiluminescence.
