ABSTRACT
In 2012, approximately 40,000 suicides were reported in the United States, making suicide 10th leading cause of death for persons aged ≥16 years (1). From 2000 to rates among this age group increased 21.1%, from 13.3 per 100,000 16.1 To inform prevention efforts, CDC analyzed by occupational group, ascribing codes 12,312 17 states 2012 National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) (2). The frequency different groups was examined, and calculated sex these categories. Persons working farming, fishing, forestry had highest rate overall (84.5 population) males (90.5); females occurred those protective service occupations (14.1). Overall, lowest (7.5) found education, training, library group. Suicide approaches directed toward that enhance social support, community connectedness, access preventive services, reduction stigma barriers help-seeking are needed.
