Prevalence of Positive Childhood Experiences Among Adults — Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, Four States, 2015–2021

ABSTRACT
Positive childhood experiences (PCEs) promote optimal health and mitigate the effects of adverse experiences, but PCE prevalence in United States is not wellknown.Using Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data, this study describes individual cumulative PCEs among adults residing four states: Kansas (2020), Montana (2019), South Carolina Wisconsin (2015).Cumulative scores were calculated by summing affirmative responses to seven questions.Subscores created for family-related (three questions) community-related (four PCEs.The varied from 59.5% (enjoyed participating community traditions) 90.5% (adult respondents' household made them feel safe), differed significantly race ethnicity, age, sexual orientation.Fewer non-Hispanic Black or African American (49.2%), Alaska Native Indian (37.7%), Hispanic Latino respondents (38.9%) reported 6-7 than did White (55.2%).Gay lesbian, bisexual less likely straight report (38.1% 27.4% versus 54.7%, respectively).A score was more frequent persons with higher income education.Improved understanding relationship adult well-being variation population subgroups might help reduce inequities.
