Substance Use Disorder Training Workshop for Future Interprofessional Health Care Providers

ABSTRACT
Rates of substance use disorders, including opioid misuse, continue to rise despite national initiatives. Because this, health professional schools from Rhode Island joined together design and implement a single-day interprofessional education workshop on disorder training.This consists four sessions. The first is patient panel featuring both patients recovering disorders their care providers. Next naloxone administration training session. This followed by standardized session an individual who requires nonopioid options for chronic pain treatment in which students work take history, perform physical examination, develop plan. Finally, the last complex paper-based case study focusing homeless with diverse medical problems requiring multifaceted care.A total 540 variety professions participated workshop. Students were asked evaluate each component workshop, as well overall, 6-point Likert scale (1 = poor, 6 outstanding). rated overall at 76% (4.54 out 6), sessions received ratings ranging 67% (4.01 study) 83% (4.96 patient/provider panel).This curriculum can be adapted implemented other provide opportunities future professionals learn how effectively teams manage disorders.
