ABSTRACT
Opioid addiction and misuse constitute a public health crisis in the United States. Recent research supports buprenorphine induction emergency department (ED) setting for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). However, education regarding medicine (EM) physicians, residents, students is still limited.We created 1-hour introductory workshop identification treatment of withdrawal OUD ED medical going into EM interns. The consisted to two distinct curricular sections: (1) didactic session providing an overview basic knowledge skills identify treat (2) case-based which worked through withdrawal; discussion patient, steps SBIRT (screening, brief intervention, referral treatment); considerations when starting buprenorphine. was evaluated using pre- posttest examining around ED.A total 48 interns participated curriculum. showed significant improvement between posttests, average 45% higher score on (p < .001).Our resulted short-term students' interns' ED.
