ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the impact of use molecular test for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and its resistance to rifampin (Xpert MTB/RIF), under routine conditions, at a referral hospital in Brazilian state Bahia. Methods: This was descriptive study using database Mycobacteriology Laboratory Octávio Mangabeira Specialized Hospital, city Salvador, georeferencing software. We evaluated 3,877 sputum samples collected from symptomatic respiratory patients, between June 2014 March 2015. All were submitted smear microscopy Xpert MTB/RIF test. Patients stratified by gender, age, geolocation. Results: Among evaluated, detected M. 678 (17.5%), which 60 (8.8%) showed rifampin. The 254 patients who tested negative microscopy, thus increasing diagnostic power 59.9%. Conclusions: test, significantly increased detection cases among smear-negative patients.
