ABSTRACT
A fundamental experimental research programme on the dynamic behaviour of surface foundations sand in general planar motion and use centrifuge modelling soil–structure interaction studies is presented. Pursued with dual purpose extending conventional formulation test programmes as well generating a physical database sufficient parametric variations key aspects, an extensive study to explore problem small-amplitude regime described. Through comparison generated data those from sequential vertical-centric horizontal load tests, novel hybrid-mode concept by way eccentric excitations substantiated terms its economy efficiency capturing force–response characteristics system. Synthesised frequency domain for direct qualitative quantitative insights, multiple forced-response records foundation models subjected random vertical, rocking are summarised. As illustration engineering relevance database, critical evaluation commonly used homogeneous half-space solution pertaining cohesionless soils also provided.
