ABSTRACT
Convulsive status epilepticus is the most common childhood neurological emergency in developing countries, where poor healthcare organisation could play a negative role management of condition. Unavailability second-line injectable anticonvulsants an additional hindering factor Georgia. This report reflects results first study aimed at evaluating epidemiological features convulsive epilepticus, as well identifying obstacles influencing patients with Georgia.A prospective, hospital-based was performed. Paediatric admitted to department referral academic hospital from 2007 2012, were included study.Forty-eight paediatric met criteria for epilepticus. Seizure duration significantly shorter among group adequate and timely pre-hospital intervention. Moreover, appropriate treatment less frequently required mechanical ventilation (p=0.039). Four deaths detected during follow-up period, thus case fatality rate 8%. Only 31% received intravenous phenytoin. The show that intervention improve outcome decrease need ventilation. Mortality parameters comparable other resource-limited countries. More than one third did not receive due unavailability phenytoin.
