ABSTRACT
The aim of the study was to synthesise a ZnO/silver birch wood (Bétula péndula) nanocomposite and evaluate its physical mechanical properties in comparison with an unmodified natural polymer.Using sol-gel method, we synthesised almost spherical impurity-free zinc oxide nanoparticles predominant particle size about 20 nm. Amorphous hydrated Zn(OH)2 impregnated into material at gel formation stage. It resulted reaction hydroxide decomposition ZnO as nanoreactor. The hydrophobic surface improved significantly (the contact angle wetting doubled). Its moisture water resistance decreased (2-5 times 30%, respectively). also showed less swelling radial (8-10 times) tangential (2.6-10 directions wood.
