ABSTRACT
Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is a rare congenital defect in which the side of severely underdeveloped. Etiology this condition remains unknown. After labour, three-stage cardio-surgical treatment necessary, however all procedures run significant risk complications. Depending on general newborn, first operation – Norwood procedure may be carried out different modifications. Complications are most common after stage palliation, and include morbidities both cardiogenic non-cardiogenic etiology. First also characterized by highest mortality rate. It followed Glenn procedure, usually performed patients at age 3 to 6 months. Finally, HLHS undergo Fontan operation, method used commonly cardiosurgical management many single-ventricle lesions. A transplantation an alternative treatment. Development cardiac surgery significantly increased survival rate children born with defects, hypoplastic among them. Nowadays, high percentage those have hope reach adulthood. Nevertheless, surgical still bears great complications continually considered mere as lethal condition.
