ABSTRACT
River terraces and floodplains indicate channel-sediment dynamics represent important landform features, which can be used to untangle the evolutionary history of climate tectonic conditions in a certain area. With availability high-resolution topographic data, it has recently become feasible apply GIS procedures for identification these subtle features. In this study, TerEx Toolbox, extension semiautomatic terrace extraction was applied on LiDAR based DEM Sava River, west Zagreb Croatia. The aim research compare results obtained by existing geological map from 1970s, shows sediments recent flow (routinely flooded area) two abandoned Holocene river study output validated using hillshaded DEM, historical area, orthophoto imagery, cross sections field investigations. successfully extracted risers shown but some parts their position extent different. presented that TerEx, particular if combination with other data sources, effectively focus fieldwork contribute new unbiased interpretation terrain morphology.
