ABSTRACT
The importance of well-developed constitutive models for predicting deformation behavior materials at high strain rates cannot be overstated. study and development these is pertinent to several fields, yet the test methods utilized probe this strain-rate realm are limited in both number standardization. In an effort augment current rate tests, new technologies have been leveraged revive old, under-utilized method – axisymmetric expanding ring. combination Photon Doppler Velocimetry (PDV) one ring launch techniques allows successful testing instrumentation samples loaded tension without wave effects exceeding 10 s. Design construction embodiment OSU, dubbed Fully Instrumented Ring Expansion (FIRE) system, will discussed. key difficulties implementation examined, along with our efforts overcome them preliminary results.
