ABSTRACT
<bold>Introduction</bold>: This study aimed to determine the awareness and uptake of surgery as a treatment option in patients with glaucoma on medical treatment.<bold>Methods</bold>: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among consenting primary who were treatment. The two eye care facilities (government-owned private). After responding questionnaire, had ocular examinations, including visual acuity, anterior/posterior segment gonioscopy central field testing. Information obtained patients’ surgical option, reasons for non-uptake those offered recorded. Logistic regression analysis used identify possible predictors glaucoma.<bold>Results</bold>: Across both facilities, 299 mean age 63.9 years participated this study. There 167 (55.9%) male 132 (44.1%) female participants. Two hundred sixty-seven (89.3%) formal education, 169 evaluated fields worse eye, 129 (76.3%) severe (advanced) glaucoma. Only 79 (26.4%) participants aware multivariate found that patients, from private facility angle closure more likely be than government-owned open-angle Patients Cost identified major barrier when it recommended, followed by fear blindness. Age, level education severity disease no statistical relationship surgery.<bold>Conclusion</bold>: Incorporating routine counselling into protocols will improve option.
