Diversity Status and Traditional Uses of Pearl Millet in Benin Northern

ABSTRACT
Millet is an important cereal crop in the northern Benin. However, diversity level of cultivated varieties still remain unknown. In order to document species, vernacular names, geographical distribution varieties, traditional cultural practices, uses and farmers’ preferences related millet cultivation, 52 villages were randomly selected surveyed throughout part Benin using participatory research appraisal. A total twenty two names recorded. Results from our survey showed that farmers both earlier later varieties. The very low number varied one a maximum three. Farmers primarily fill household needs. productivity culinary qualities appeared be most criteria which determined choice variety. Both men women are involved ‘cultivation. Men mostly charge hard work mainly harvesting post-harvest. With nmber recorded it clearly recommended clarify reel through agromrophological genetic characterization.
