ABSTRACT
Objective: This study aimed to analyze the scientific evidence of deficiencies in the knowledge of parents and caregivers about first aid procedures for children. Methods: This is an integrative review with a research question structured by PICO strategy, conducted in LILACS, MEDLINE®, BDENF, CINAHL, Cochrane and SciELO databases. Data collection was performed applying a specific form, with critical and methodological evaluation using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme, and analysis and interpretation using the data reduction method. Results: The final sample comprised 25 studies, which revealed deficiencies in knowledge related to first aid procedures, most often with burns, falls, dental avulsion, cardiorespiratory arrest, foreign body airway obstruction, and poisoning. Conclusion: Assessing these deficiencies in knowledge and discussing doubts drive research to correlate with the profile of parents and enable the development of strategies and educational materials that can meet the needs of parents and caregivers.
