ABSTRACT
Background: Myocardial infarction (MI) is a major cause of mortality worldwide. Its presentation as ST-segment elevation MI (STEMI) and non-ST-segment (NSTEMI) influence by atherosclerosis risk factors.
Aim: To assess the patterns predicting factors acute in Kosovo. Methods: This cross sectional study from Clinic Cardiology University Clinical Center Kosovo, which included all patients hospitalized with over period 7 years (January 1st, 2014 to December 31st, 2020). Data was collected using structured questionnaire epidemiological were analyzed. Results: Among 7353 admitted (age 63 ± 12 years, 29% female), 4366 (59.4%) had STEMI, 2987 (40.6%) NSTEMI. Patients age not different between two groups (p=0.077). NSTEMI smoked less (48.3% vs. 54%, p<0.001), but more diabetics (37.8% 33.6%, hypertensives (69.6% 63%, frequently family history for coronary artery disease (CAD) (40% vs 38%, p=0.009), females compared STEMI (32% 27%, p<0.001). The patients, did differ prevalence significant CAD on angiography (66.8% 67.8%, p = 0.396), underwent primary percutaneous interventions (43.6% 55.2%, < 0.001). Conclusion: In commoner than NSTEMI, who mostly males, likely have diabetes, hypertension those Smoking arterial proved strongest predictors MI, thus highlighting urgent need better control education strategy.
