ABSTRACT
Chemical and mechanical properties of plasma-assisted nitrided (PAN), TiN cathodic arc coated, PAN with coated samples were thoroughly evaluated on tool steel 1.2379. The evaluation involved SEM, nano-indentation, profilometer, micro scratch, corrosion tests. results revealed that treatment alters the roughness surface, while it has minimal impact coefficient friction. However, increases substrate's hardness, making twice as hard three times more resilient against scratch tests, along improved resistance. TiN-coated are four harder than untreated ones, but they exhibit a higher elastic modulus (E), leading to lower H/E index. most promising obtained PAN+TiN treatment, combining high hardness (H) E, resulting in index, crucial criterion for wear These also demonstrated superior resistance, despite being thinner rougher.
