ABSTRACT
Abstract Planarian asexual reproduction via transverse fission is a size-dependent animal behavior that offers robust context to investigate mechanisms coordinating growth, patterning, and function. During fission, planarians mechanically break off portion of posterior tissue which will go on regenerate into clonal progeny. By optimizing husbandry techniques the planarian Schmidtea mediterranea, we developed protocol robustly induces behavior. This technique permits investigation effects different experimental perturbations fission. Using visual scoring, successful fissions can be scored daily by counting While this only measures fissions, constant video recording measurement unsuccessful attempts as well. The consists optimal worms, transfer animals dishes, scoring over 2-week period.
