Molecular Detection of Rickettsia felis in Haemaphysalis longicornis Ticks in Anhui Province of China

Abstract Background Rickettsia felis causes febrile illness in humans. There is no information on the organism Anhui Province of China. Methods Questing ticks were collected from China and tick DNA was used as template for nested PCR (or real-time PCR) to amplify with 16S rRNA gene ( rrs ), 17kDa protein orfB gene. Results results indicated that 0.22% (2/907) positive R. . Sequence analysis partial 17 kDa genes showed highly homologous R.felis URRWXCal2 similarity 98.91% 99%, respectively. Conclusions Our study demonstrated first evidence H. longicornis China, suggesting a potential transmission humans through bite
