ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Antimicrobial resistance is an increasing threat to health systems which leads treatment failure, high costs and increased mortality. Infections due extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) carbapenemase producing Enterobacteriaceae(CPE) impose a major global issues, because they are usually multiple antimicrobial agents. Data on the fecal ESBL Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL-PE) CPE in developing countries including Ethiopia limited mainly resource constraints. Thus, aim of this study was determine prevalence MDR, among patients with gastrointestinal complaints at University Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Gondar; Northwest Ethiopia.Materials Methods A Hospital based cross-sectional conducted 384 from January - April 2019 Hospital. stool sample aseptically collected inoculated MacConkey agar plate. After getting pure colonies, biochemical testing susceptibility were done following standard microbiological techniques. production screened by using ceftazidime cefotaxime confirmed combined disk diffusion test CLSI guidline. Carbapenemases meropenem disc modified carbapenem inactivation method. checked, cleaned entered Epi-Info version 7.1 transferred SPSS 20 for analysis. P-value <0.05 95% CI considered as statistically significant.Result Out participants, 404 isolated. Among these, 196 (48.5%) MDR. The overall 66(16.3%) 4(1%) respectively. Of total ESBL-PE, E.coli 41/66(62.1%) K.pneumoniae 18/66(27.3%) most predominant isolates. Conclusion Finding rate MDR Enterobacteriaceae,ESBL-PE require strict infection control measures careful selection empirical therapy area. Therefore, active surveillance large size better prevention needed.
