ABSTRACT
The combined process of flocculation and filtration can improve algae harvesting performance by combining the benefits both overcoming drawbacks, which was thoroughly examined in this study, considering technical economic feasibility under a variety operating situations. Dead-end performed to evaluate performance, removal extracellular organic matter examine changes flocs. Cross-flow then carried out explore effect parameters on permeate flux assess feasibility. optimum condition use 5 mg/L cationic polyacrylamide with 25 μm pore size 0.1 m/s cross-flow velocity, high efficiency 95.2%, average 55.5 m 3 /(m 2 h) volumetric reduction factor 118.9 were achieved. Algal floc analysis revealed that, unlike flocs formed ferric chloride polyaluminium sulfate tended partially deconstruct into smaller pieces during process, aggregate bigger flocs, which, when paired flocculant dosage membrane size, could explain difference permeance. No negative downstream technology observed for process. A significantly lowered estimated total cost 0.139 $/kg obtained compared without assisted (0.206 $/kg).
