ABSTRACT
Patients with difficult peripheral intravenous (IV) access are common in emergency departments (EDs). Ultrasound-guided catheters (USIVs) frequently used this population; however, information regarding the effect of patient and IV characteristics on dwell time (DT) survival probability (SP) USIVs is limited. Our study aimed to evaluate for associations between or DT SP USIVs.Retrospective analysis was performed a database from an ED nurse (RN) USIV training program at urban, academic hospital. over 18 years placed during period were included. Subject demographics, history, characteristics, insertion, removal times collected. Data analyzed using descriptive statistics univariable multivariable Cox regression. variates interest estimated Kaplan-Meier curves three censoring points. The final cohort 388 patients. Mean age 56.6 years, 66.5% female, mean BMI 29.9 kg/m2, 42.5% obese (BMI ≥30). Median 40.3 hours admitted patients (N=340). 96 87.8%. A total 21 340 (6.2%) failed. location conferred difference when dichotomized into upper arm versus antecubital fossa forearm together (38.6 vs 44.6 hours, p=0.03). No factors associated SP.Median higher than previous studies. Only 7% our Overall, survived longer expected.
