Accurate reporting of adherence to inhaled therapies in adults with cystic fibrosis: methods calculate normative Zhe Hui Hoo,1,2 Rachael Curley,1,2 Michael J Campbell,1 Stephen Walters,1 Daniel Hind,3 Martin Wildman1,2 1School Health and Related Research (ScHARR), University Sheffield, 2Sheffield Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre, Northern General Hospital, 3Sheffield Clinical Trials Unit, UK Background: Preventative treatments fibrosis will only be effective maintaining lung health if used appropriately. An accurate index should therefore reflect treatment effectiveness, but the standard method adherence, that is, as a percentage agreed regimen between clinicians people fibrosis, does not account for appropriateness regimen. We describe two different indices therapy which take into "simple" "sophisticated" adherence. Methods adherence: Denominator adjustment involves fixing minimum appropriate value based on recommended given person's characteristics. For simple denominator is determined by Pseudomonas status. sophisticated status history pulmonary exacerbations over previous year. Numerator capping daily maximum use at 100% so medication overuse artificially inflate level. Three illustrative cases: Case A an example under prescription resulting lower compared unadjusted B under-prescription exacerbation C nebulizer exaggerating magnitude Conclusion: Different can result magnitudes have proposed standardizing calculation better effectiveness. The these tested empirically clinical trials there careful definition regimens related key patient characteristics, alongside measurement outcomes. Keywords: nebulizers vaporizers, epidemiologic
