ABSTRACT
Habit, a psychological process that automatically generates urges to perform behavior in associated settings, is potentially an important determinant of medication adherence. Habit challenging measure because, as construct, it cannot be directly observed. We describe method using routinely available objective adherence data from electronic capture (EDC) generate behavior-based index habit and demonstrate how this can applied. Our proposed "frequency context" measure. It estimates multiplicative product frequency (generated weekly percentage adherence) context stability (inferred time nebulizer use). Although different timescales used, we chose scores since believe the most granular level at which reasonably calculated.A hallmark predict future behavior, hence used series cross-correlate with subsequent week among 123 adults cystic fibrosis (52, 42.3% female; median age 25 years) over duration 153 weeks (IQR 74-198 weeks). The mean cross-correlation coefficient (R) between was 0.40 (95% CI 0.36-0.44). Adjusting for current adherence, unstandardized regression (B) 0.30 -1.04 1.65).We have described pragmatic infer "habit" captured EDC provided proof-of-principle evidence regarding feasibility concept. continuous stream allows unobtrusively assess various points prolonged periods, may applicable formation studies.
