Characterization of hepatocellular carcinoma in Mansoura university Hospitals: A case-control study of risk factors.

ABSTRACT
Background and aims.Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver cancer one of leading causes related deaths.The aim this study to investigate characters risk factors in development hepatocellular Mansoura University Hospitals. Methods.The included 220 patients with HCC plus 246 control from general population rural areas Dakahlia.All was randomly selected.Diagnosis based on ultrasonography confirmed by triphasic computerized tomography /or MRI. Results.Compared without HCC, were significantly male (76.8% vs. 62.0%), smoker (32.7% 14.2%),diabetes mellitus (24.1%vs.8.9%), had a positive hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection (55.9% 13.0%),hepatitis B (HBV) (5.5% vs.0.4%) schistosoma infestation (67.7% 44.3%).HCC cases characterized by, cirrhotic (81.8 %), child score (47.7), found right lobe (47.3%), multifocal lesions (49.1%) presented portal vein thrombosis (26.4%).The OR 95% Confidence interval (CI) (OR 36.9, CI 18-75.8)for anti-HCV 84.807, 8.6-835.59)for HBsAg multivariate analysis.The for diabetes 0.31, 0.18-0.53),smoking 0.343, CI0.217-0.54)and schistosomiasis 0.376, 0.257-0.559) Univariate analysis. Conclusions.Infection HBV HCV are major Egyptian patients.
