ABSTRACT
Smartphones allow for real-time monitoring of patients' behavioral activities in a naturalistic setting. These data are suggested as markers the mental state patients with bipolar disorder (BD).We assessed relations between collected from smartphones and clinically rated depressive manic symptoms together corresponding affective states BD.BDmon, dedicated mobile app, was developed installed on to automatically collect statistics about their phone calls text messages well self-assessments sleep mood. The final sample numerical analyses consisted 51 eligible who participated at least two psychiatric assessments used BDmon app (mean participation time, 208 [SD 132] days). In total, 196 were performed using Hamilton Depression Rating Scale Young Mania Scale. Generalized linear mixed-effects models applied quantify strength relation daily mood BD.Objective found be related BD follows: (1) depressed tended make less frequently than euthymic (β=-.064, P=.01); (2) number incoming answered during depression lower that euthymia (β=-.15, P=.01) and, concurrently, missed more frequent increased intensified (β=4.431, P<.001; β=4.861, P<.001, respectively); (3) fraction outgoing higher (β=2.73, P=.03); (4) manic/mixed compared (β=3.53, positively correlated severity (β=2.991, P=.02); (5) variability duration (β=.0012, P=.045) (β=.0017, (6) length sent (β=.031, P=.01; β=.015, respectively) (β=.116, β=.022, respectively). We also observed self-assessment (β=-1.452, P<.001) (β=.509, P<.001).Smartphone-based parameters valid assessing discriminating BD. This technology opens way toward early detection worsening thereby increases patient's chance improving course illness.
