ABSTRACT
Primary immunodeficiencies (PIs) are a set of heterogeneous chronic disorders characterized by immune dysfunction. They diagnostically challenging because their clinical heterogeneity, knowledge gaps among primary care physicians, and continuing shortages clinically trained immunologists. As result, patients with undiagnosed PIs at increased risk for recurrent infections, cancers, autoimmune diseases. The aim this research is to develop implement decision support (CDS) tool the identification underlying PIs.We will CDS who receive through health provider University Iowa Hospitals Clinics. The function an algorithm that based on Immune Deficiency Foundation's 10 Warning Signs Immunodeficiency. Over course year, we use Lean Six Sigma principles Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC) framework guide project. measure number newly diagnosed PI per month. Secondary measures include following: (1) new identified as being high PI, (2) cases in which immunoglobulin replacement or rotating antibiotics started, (3) cost evaluation each patient PIs, (4) consults not (5) satisfaction process referral Immunology Clinic. This study was determined be Human Subjects Research Institutional Review Board Iowa. Data collection begin August 2021.The development implementation promising approach identifying PI. This protocol assesses whether such able achieve its objective reducing diagnostic delays. disciplined approach, using DMAIC framework, maximize opportunities successful intervention meets study's goals objectives well allow replication adaptation these methods other sites.PRR1-10.2196/32635.
