ABSTRACT
Digital interventions have been applied for promoting HIV prevention and care among men who sex with (MSM). As user interface (UI) design plays a role in determining usability experience (UX), the intervention outcome could be affected. In this study, we hypothesized that 2 UI styles, namely gamification neumorphism, impact differentially preferred by distinct groups of MSM.A prospective parallel-group open-label randomized controlled trial was conducted Hong Kong. Eligible participants were adult MSM recruited research team or referred enrolled participants, followed instructions performing an self-test promoted its use within their social network. Participants 1:1 ratio into either neumorphism arm, primarily visual differences only. The primary measured System Usability Scale (SUS) between arms. Distinct characteristics promoters arms gave SUS score 80 above identified.Of 463 registered 232 231 to arms, respectively. Excluding those did not request kit, data from 218 216 respectively, analyzed (totally 434 participants). With median overall, arm higher (P<.001), proportion giving promoter-level (P=.002). Promoters used media networking (P=.02), pre-exposure prophylaxis preceding year (P=.006), had satisfaction made referral (P=.04). In general, recorded confident associated both While no other personal HIV-related knowledge (P=.01), specific partner body image type (P=.03), progressed toward peer completing online training (P=.04).Both gamified neumorphic designs well-accepted MSM. UX crucial influencing willingness promote application referring peers community participate. simplistic conferred more general acceptance community, whereas certain subcommunities. Appropriate UI/UX should considered when developing digital targeting community.ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04379206; https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04379206.
