ABSTRACT
<sec>
BACKGROUND
As one of the leading causes child mortality, deaths due to congenital anomalies (CAs) have been a prominent obstacle meet Sustainable Development Goal 3.2.
OBJECTIVE
We conducted this study understand death burden and trend under-5 CA mortality (CAMR) in Zhejiang, provinces with best medical services public health foundations Eastern China.
METHODS
used data retrieved from surveillance system Zhejiang 2012 2021. CAMR by sex, residence, age group for each year was calculated standardized according 2020 National Population Census sex- residence-specific live birth Poisson regression models were estimate annual average change rate (AACR) obtain ratio between subgroups after adjusting when appropriate.
RESULTS
From 2021, total 1753 children died CAs, declined 121.2 62.6 per 100,000 births an AACR –9% (95% CI –10.7% –7.2%; P<.001). The declining also observed female male children, urban rural neonates older infants, AACRs –9.7%, –8.5%, –9.2%, –12%, –6.3%, respectively (all However, no significant reduction aged 1-4 years (P=.22). Generally, ratios versus infants neonates, 1.18 1.08-1.30; P<.001), 1.20 1.08-1.32; P=.001), 0.66 0.59-0.73; 0.20 0.17-0.24; respectively. Among all broad groups, circulatory malformations, mainly caused heart diseases, accounted 49.4% (866/1753) ranked first across years, although it yearly –9.8% (P<.001). Deaths chromosomal abnormalities tended grow recent not (P=.90).
CONCLUSIONS
reduced annually, cardiovascular malformations ranking Future research practices should focus more on prevention, early detection, long-term management CAs comprehensive support families improve their survival chances.
