ABSTRACT
Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) is one of the most important types generalized idiopathic epilepsy. Patients generally respond quickly and perfectly to standard antiepileptic drugs but lifelong medication necessary. Sodium valproate drug choice in references it has some adverse reactions patients cannot tolerate complications. Because need for life long treatment this young aged group particularly child bearing women, we aimed analyze efficacy these determine which better with lower effects. In double-blind clinical trial 102 suffering from juvenile were randomly divided three groups treated valproate, levetiracetam or lamotrigine followed 12 months at specified intervals.Patients' mean age was 22.8 years 28.4% them males 71.6% females. Effective terminal dose sodium 1000, 1000 250mg, respectively. The rate failure controlling seizures jerks meaningfully more than (P=0.037).The general side effects much more; there not any significant difference between their on electroencephalogram (EEG) findings (P=0.81).Levetiracetam have similar efficacy. But lamotrigine, failure, myoclonus levetiracetam. According our study, could be a suitable option JME as mono therapy. Levetiracetam can good alternative especially women childbearing age.
