ABSTRACT
Purpose of review: The popularity farmers’ markets is increasing, yet little understood about their contribution in developing social or economic benefits for the farmers who use them. This paper reviews literature on and contributions that they make, not only to rural community but also urban centres within which operate, various challenges associated with operation. Main findings: Although there are many advantages markets, review identifies a clear gap research relating potential impact areas tourism. While most studies have been undertaken developed countries, countries equally if more important, given role enhancing wellbeing smallholder producers. Directions future research: Future should guide policy makers by providing evidence tourism development.
