ABSTRACT
Safety and efficacy of two drug regimens used for sedation analgesia during lower-extremity angiography were studied. Midazolam (loading dose 14.5 micrograms/kg; maintenance dose, 7.2 micrograms/kg) with or without fentanyl 0.725 0.362 was administered in a blind fashion as an IV bolus to 50 patients. Hemodynamic responses monitored, standardized questionnaire given the patient before, immediately after, 8-24 hr after procedure. Physicians also asked questions Heart rate oxygen saturation not significantly different before 2 min administration between groups. A small but significant decrease blood pressure occurred loading both Both had statistically anxiolytic effects; however, effects superior midazolam/fentanyl group (p less than .02). Patients rated overall effectiveness anesthesia Analysis physicians' judgments showed advantage .01). We conclude that appears be safe more efficacious midazolam alone angiography.
