ABSTRACT
SUMMARY The subjective nature of pain renders its perception in others a challenge for clinicians and informal caregivers responsible assessment relief. Adequate others' relies on different behavioral neurophysiological mechanisms. Several individual, relational contextual factors can influence the way brain reacts to this pain. This article focuses recent psychological evidence that characterizes these factors, discusses their potential impact caregiving context. Factors influencing are divided into related self (caregiver), other (patient), relationship between those individuals context which is perceived. We propose plays crucial role treatment provided by caregivers, further research could lead improving decision-making regarding management.
