ABSTRACT
Three species of mangrove oysters, Crassostrea rhizophorae, C. brasiliana, and gasar, have been described along the Atlantic shores South America Africa. Because distribution these molluscs is great biological commercial interest, their taxonomy deserve further clarification. Therefore, 15 populations were sampled from both continents. Their 16S mitochondrial polymorphism was studied by sequencing PCR-RFLP analysis. Two haplotypes identified. Haplotype a only one observed in Africa, but it also together with haplotype b. gasar oyster identified on west coast attributed to this species, which has thus shown occur America. b rhizophorae.
