ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: The most demanding scenarios and physical demands of elite basketball 5-on-5 scrimmages are unknown to trainers, although recent advances in microtechnology allows the gaps this research be filled. purpose study was describe compare demands, through traditional average measures, two different scrimmage situations executed during training sessions male players.METHODS: Physical demand measures (i.e., total distance covered, high-speed running distance, number high-intensity accelerations actions, decelerations actions) were collected from 12 players Spanish first Division using a Local Positioning System. Measures compared via Bayesian inference analysis, considering playing half-court (HALF) transition (HTRAN) conditions for scrimmage.RESULTS: This showed that, irrespective approach used quantify (traditional [average per minute] novel rolling time epoch [most scenarios]), HALF condition covered less performed lower than HTRAN (Bayesian factor >10 standardized effect size >0.6). Furthermore, players' situations, independently court size, underestimated consistently by approach.CONCLUSIONS: Quantifying may provide more accurate measure intense periods activity. Based on described, help train perform optimally physically-stressful match-play whereas suitable included warm-ups, recovery immediately before match.
