Early orthodontic treatment need in paediatric age: a prospective observational study in Italian school-children.

ABSTRACT
This study evaluates the prevalence of Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) in Italian school-children.A prospective observational was conducted to assess IOTN patients undergoing a first visit at Santa Chiara Hospital Paediatric Dentistry Unit Pisa, Italy. Two thousand, one hundred ninetynine subjects met inclusion criteria and were enrolled study; data on age, gender concomitant systemic pathologies collected from medical records. All participants examined for individual IOTN: presence anterior and/or unilateral/bilateral crossbite with or without midline deviation, bad habits (finger, sucking habits, mouth breathing, tongue thrust), overjet > 3 mm, lack space 1.2 2.2 eruption investigated. The above mentioned parameters considered positive IOTN. Chi-square test used evaluate any statistically significant difference (p < 0.05).The confirms percentage paediatric who need IOTN; early treatment is highly recommended reduce malocclusion outcomes adult population.
