ABSTRACT
The use of self-assessment is not effective, this the result a lack guidance or support provided by teachers during which common reason. Although students carry out their own self-assessment, also play an important role. Teachers need to provide consistent and detailed instructions regarding procedures so that are able internalize concepts involved. This study aimed analyze perception on in writing competence identify challenges they face. uses survey design with qualitative approach. 9th grade as participants study. Questionnaire interview were used collect data. Thematic analysis method analyzing data describe interpret interview. findings show have positive towards self assessment, specifically categorized into four main themes. Firstly, useful for improve competence, encourages developed quality writing, helps student achieve expectation assess competence. Additionally, found three themes, such feel underestimated less objective assessing time
