ABSTRACT
Nonadherence, particularly among men who have sex with (MSM) substance use disorders increases the risk of both HIV acquisition in those are uninfected and disease progression transmission HIV. Measuring adherence to pre-exposure chemoprophylaxis (PrEP) antiretroviral therapy (ART), responding suboptimal or changes behavior, remains a challenging public health problem. Despite importance accurate measurement, there no gold standard for detecting medication ingestion events research. Technologies been developed that indirectly infer (e.g., via smart pill bottles) directly measure over periods time drug concentration plasma red blood cells), yet such approaches fail provide direct confirmation ingestions contextual information surrounding nonadherence. The digital system (DPS) – novel tool leverages ingestible radiofrequency sensors actual has potential advance measurement In this study, we examined willingness MSM across racial ethnic identities operate DPS context PrEP suggest future applications technology.
