ABSTRACT
To improve the aging resistance and prolong service life of asphalt pavement, this study utilized modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) functionalized with carboxyl (MWCNTs-COOH), hydroxyl (MWCNTs-OH), amino (MWCNTs-NH2) groups. These were incorporated into SBS-modified at a concentration 1%. The sought to examine impact MWCNTs their functional groups on asphalt’s rheological anti-aging characteristics, alongside exploring modification mechanisms. findings indicated that tests showed MWCNTs/SBS composite-modified asphalt, particularly MWCNTs-OH/SBS, exhibited remarkable hightemperature deformation, crucial characteristic for performance in hot climates. Nevertheless, it is important note addition led an increase creep strength rate, which could potentially reduce its low-temperature cracking. However, covalent functionalization mitigated these adverse effects performance. Moreover, inclusion served as barrier, impeding penetration oxygen molecules ultraviolet radiation matrix. This proved be effective means inhibiting process, critical factor extending pavement. Among different formulations MWCNTs-OH/SBS notably properties. Both evaluations demonstrated played pivotal role enhancing performance, chiefly by fostering interactions molecules.
