Ultrasonographic abnormalities in the eyes of dogs with cataracts: 147 cases (1986–1992)

ABSTRACT
Records of 147 dogs with cataracts and that had an ultrasonographic examination their eyes were reviewed. Ultrasonography was performed, using a real-time mechanical sector scanner (7.5 or 10.0 MHz transducer), after topical anesthesia the cornea. Vitreous degeneration diagnosed in 23% examined. Retinal detachment detected 11% all eyes, but 4% immature cataracts, 6.5% mature 19% hypermature cataracts. In 66% cataract only abnormality found. retinal most often observed cataract, uncommon cataract. We concluded can detect abnormalities posterior segment when opacity anterior precludes complete ophthalmoscopic it is quick easy procedure for screening prior to surgery.
