ABSTRACT
Abstract Local Economic Development (LED) planning is a place-based approach to development and increasingly significant across much of the global South. One key challenges facing LED necessity adjust in relation dynamic nature both international national framework conditions. The purpose this article show challenge by examining policy environment impacting upon South Africa, country which has relatively long history planning. Five dimensions changing landscape economic Africa are identified. These relate (a) within context new plans; (b) initiatives for reindustrialising African economy, associated importance localisation promotion green economy; (c) programmes around small business development; (d) shifts rural interventions; (e) fluid spatial as form placebased embedded.
