Assisted pregnant patients' knowledge about syphilis and other STIs at Basic Health Units in the city of Zé Doca, State of Maranhão

ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of pregnant women assisted in Unidades Básicas de Saúde (UBS) a city state Maranhão about syphilis and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI). Methods: This is descriptive study with quantitative approach. The sample was composed patients who sought care UBS municipality. A semi-structured questionnaire applied on participants' sociodemographic information general interviewees STIs/syphilis. Results: Of 25 interviewed, 84% were 18 years age or older, 52% had attended high school, 64% reported having an income less than one minimum wage, 48% knew at least STI; did not inform etiologic agent syphilis; 40% said that human organs affected by correspond to genitalia; 28% test diagnose are blood screening tests; 72% could answer what congenital 60% transmission syphilis. Conclusion: findings indicated investigated demonstrated erroneous STD/syphilis.
