ABSTRACT
Objectives: To study the bone mineral density in patients with thalassemia. Thalassemia is a genetic disorder characterized by reduced synthesis of globin chain, leading to decreased hemoglobin levels. Blood transfusion therapy primary treatment, but it can cause iron overload and other factors that increase risk low density. Despite this, there limited research on thalassemia India, particularly North Eastern region, focus Material Methods: We conducted hospital-based case-control Department Medicine at Assam Medical College Hospital, Dibrugarh, from June 1, 2020, May 31, 2021. have collected data 51 cases healthy controls analyzed (SPSS for Windows, version 21.0 Chicago, SPSS Inc.) Microsoft Excel 2010. Bone was measured Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) (Lunar Prodigy Advance DEXA (GE Healthcare, Madison, WI, USA). Results: Our also showed had 3.775 times higher lumbar vertebra 4.0421 femur neck than normal population. The mean BMD spine were lower controls, difference femoral being statistically significant. Conclusion: highlights more half density, affected age sex-matched controls. These findings underscore importance monitoring health implementing appropriate interventions prevent or manage
